Question by : What is the safest driving route from Boise Idaho to Fairbanks Alaska?
My husband and I are roadtripping the states in our RV and we’re trying to figure out the best and safest way to get from Boise to Fairbanks….. I figured we’d stop in Prince George BC and head in to Alaska from there… Does any one know the safest route from BC into Alaska… We come from Texas, so we’re not too used to super icy roads, but I’m sure we can manage… any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You didn’t mention when you are coming up. It will make a big difference! Driving on the beautiful and historic AlCan Highway is an amazing experience. Please come up in summer. You will want to take your time and enjoy the trip. Driving in an RV once snow and ice is there will be not so pretty and not so easy and and not so safe. Everything will be white! You won’t see much wildlife. Many cafes, gas stations, and motels are closed for the winter. Help will be hard to find if you need it. Get a copy of the Milepost. It is the best travel and trip guide for Alaska. I did a lot of research before I came up and I was often told to make sure I arrived in Fairbanks before Sept 15 as the weather changes significantly. I made sure I did and the whole trip was great! Come on up…we love tourists! Oh, p.s. read the great book Blue Highways by William Least Heat Moon. I read it before I went traveling around the country and found it inspirational. It is about discovering America by driving the blue highways and seeing how folks really live…not the kind experienced by the superhighways.
