Question by Kat: What college should I attend?
Help! I don’t know where to go to school. I want to major in Political Science and get a good job in a competitive field. Here are my choices:
San Francisco State- in-state, cheaper tuition, not a prestigious school
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo: not a great location but cheaper tuition
University of Nevada, Reno: out of state tuition, good school
Boise State University: tuition break, far from home (not such a bad thing:)
University of Connecticut: EXPENSIVE and far from home, but it is a great school and will open up more doors.
Do schools really matter when looking for jobs and internships? I live in California and I have a cumulative 3.76 gpa, and a 1760 SATs. Any suggestions?? THANKS

Schools matter only in that they will give you the connections that you will need later on. If you really want to pursue a political career of any kind you’ll want to be in a place where you’ll get the best connections.
Go for Boise State or U of Conneticut. Paying the loans back on the latter will suck but I can guarantee you’ll have good connections there. If the loans aren’t as much of an option, location-wise Boise will be better for you.
Good luck! College can be a great time, and it sounds like you have the smarts for it

your undergrad degree isnt that important really for a job if you plan on going to grad school..if you get into a good grad school, thats what counts..id suggest going to a school thats cheaper (so you can save for grad school or for moving into a house when youre older)..being close to home isnt all that bad..youll realize that you miss your family when you go away to college for the first time…id say cal poly or if money isnt a problem university of reno…good luck
Just go to a school that fits your budget, lifestyle, and has the degree in your chosen field. Enjoying the time and doing well is much more important than where.
Don’t worry a lot about prestige. It may mean a lot for the first job out of school, but means little after that. In general, experience and performance far outweigh which school you attended. After the first job, hardly anyone cares where you went or what your grades were.
I can’t imagine why anyone would get a degree in political science, though. With a 3.76 and 1760, I would think you have set your goals very low. Of course I have a bias being a professional engineer.
