Question by bad ass brutus: Do you think the 51 day lay off of the buckeyes had a factor in the outcome of the bcs championship game?
Considering “THE OHIO STATE BUCKEYES” sat at home after pouring their blood, sweat and tears in the real championship game against archrival Michigan in the season finally and watched then #9 ranked Florida, in 2 weeks jump 1 loss Michigan to take the #2 spot, do you think it’s fair to college football fans,players that the #1 team wait 51 days to play for all the marbles? A play off system is not that hard to figure out. NCAA mandates all football conferences play a conference championship game. 1 week later all conference champions and what ever is left of the top 20 ranked teams to make up a 16 team turniment Have them play in nuetral sites. i.e. all the professional stadiums around the country would be perfect for hosting such games. To the people who say this would ruin the bowl games, here goes, the finals would result in the BCS championship series. Everybody wins, college football the fans and the players. Now you have a true national champion! Boise state was left out to dry!
Hey JR.R. did you even watch the OSU michigan game? By far the best game this season to include the Boise state OU game. Heres another, wasn’t the SEC the over-rated conference. WISC over Arkansas and Penn State over Tennessee, I believe the SEC wne 1-2 vs BIG TEN in bowl games this year. If it wasn’t for Meyer cry babying his way into the game they wouldn’t have been there, so be it, 2 national championships in 100 years of college football, now thats a football dynasty. Oh by the way us BUCKEYES are over it. Next year looks great. Theres a 6’6 245lbs QB graduating high school in O-H-I-O and he’s committed to OSU. Another disadvantage was that Florida had all that time to watch Ohio State games and find their weakness and exploit it. Thats why we need a playoff. We now have a ton of teams with one loss and one team undefeated. Florida lost to an unranked team at the time. Michigan loses to the number 1 team by 3 points and they lose their shot at the title not fair at all. Got to have a play off and not give teams more than a month to figure out how to beat a team. Takes away from the game. No Im not a Buckeye fan though I do live in Ohio. Peace out and Roll Tide ……………………….

As a lifelong Buckeye and someone who was at the game, I think we were merely out-played. Having said that, there should be a playoff system, but too many huge corporations make a ton of $ $ off of the Bowl Games to consider it. Bummer.
The winner is the winner, and it’s a game. Florida might have lost a rematch with Auburn, and OSU could have lost to USC. There are week-to-week variabilities, and luck plays a big role. Many think a playoff would be better, but the draw could determine the outcome to a large extent, and it still wouldn’t be absolute proof that the winner is the best team, though it would be somewhat more satisfying to most people.
If the 51 days off or Ginn got hurt helps you sleep better, more power to you . The way Flordia played, they would of blasted any team that night. As fas as a play off system goes blame BG 10′s own Jim Delany.
I don’t like the 51 day layoff either, but Florida was the better team.
1.) Speed
2.) Too many talented recievers was an advantage over Ohio
States Zone Defense. Man-Man is better.
3.) Florida’s defensive line did whatever they wanted
4.) OSU schedule was weak, but they did their part and beat
their opponents (can’t blame them for that), but it shows
when they played a better team
Current BCS is set in stone until 2009-2010. ABC has a contract with the Rose Bowl through 2014 which in turn have contract with the PAC 10 and Big 10 which can’t be broken or altered. All the BCS Bowls need to be unanimous in changing the current post season system before a playoff system can be worked out.
The Buckeyes were flat for whatever reason, you have to blame the coaching staff as well, they were truely out coached by Meyer and it’s the coaching staff’s job to keep a team ready to play even though they didn’t play for 51 days.
Hey now, aren’t all you Bucks forgetting something? It’s not like Florida just played the week before. Sure, they had two more weeks but maybe the schedulers should do something about that. The Gators were without a doubt the best team. Michigan AND OSU got ANNIHILATED! So don’t tell me that the Michigan-OSU game was the true championship because they were both overrated big time. Sure, I think we need a playoff no doubt. But for you to hide behind Boise State in the end, that’s low. I think that if Boise State plays OU 100 times OU wins 99. It was just Boise’s night and that’s how it is sometimes. But that game was close. Championship was 41-14!!!! I’m sick of Buckeye excuses. You lost get over it.
Here we go again, another crybaby OSU fan making excuses. The truth hurts, and here it is:
OSU could not hang with Florida. As Florida players said after the game, OSU wasn’t even in the top five of the toughest teams Florida played this year. OSU feasted on a weak schedule, put up inflated stats and got exposed by a far superior team. Florida could have put up 80 points in that game, but they decided to cruise for the second half because they were up by so much at halftime. Michigan fans need a dose of reality too. I think everyone can admit that the OSU v. Michigan game was between two highly overrated pretenders. Both teams were eventually exposed by better teams. And did anyone really want to see Michigan get beat by OSU again for the BCS Championship game? That would have been a joke.
In conclusion, the best team in the country became the National Champ. Florida was just much better, so shut up about Ted Ginn and 51 days. You got beat, go home and cry to someone who cares.
