Question by Jessica B: can someone help me identify a spider?
I live in the city of boise in southern idaho and I found a spider with a vibrant red body and a larger abdomen tan in color it moved very slow but I think that may because I had turned a very bright light on. It was a medium sized spider with distinct black fangs I have looked on numerous websites and I am having a very hard time identifying it. I’m nervous it may be poisonous especially with a three year old in the house.

The hobo spider is probably the one to worry about in that area.
Except for the black colour of the fangs, it sounds like a Woodlouse Spider, (Dysdera crocata). It may have been one of those, and just had particularly dark fangs.
If that’s what it was, they can give a painful bite, but aren’t venomous to humans. They use those big fangs to kill their prey, i.e. insects with hard shells, mainly Sow Bugs.
Here are some pic’s of Woodlouse Spiders:

Hope that helps.
