To many teams, crying for a spot and plus it would take a lot more out of the players than the Basketball championship does
The Universities will loose money. You have to realize a team that goes to a BCS Bowl gets about 4.5 million dollars. And a team that plays in lets say the Alamo Bowl gets about 1.2 million. Many teams that were getting bowl bids every year wouldn’t make the playoffs and the school wont receive that money anymore.
Besides college football is now playing 12 games a season. (Excluding Conference Championships and Bowl Games) That’s a long enough year…. these are college kids not the big boys. There is no need for a playoff when you have so many teams that will never get to participate in the post season. There are 119 Division 1A Schools, and a lot of those schools will never see playoff action.
Unlike NCAA Basketball, NCAA Football is dominated by about 40 schools or so. The same teams will be in the playoffs every year and we will never see teams progress. In order for a playoff system to work you would also need a NIT for football, which would make things even more complicating and less exiting.
because it takes more time
Sounds good to me
Just play the last 4 games athe the BCS sites
Great concept, wont happen, the NCAA Division 1 programs are addicted to bowl money.
32′s too many. 16 will work (besides, NCAA regs don’t allow for more than 25% of participating schools to be in a playoff, so 32 wouldn’t be allowed anyway).
Beyond that, there is no good reason not to have a playoff.
colleges are greedy and, if there was a playoff system in place, they they would lose the money they get from all the big companies that sponsor all those meaningless bowl games.
