National Guard…chances of my friend and I…?

Question by Amber: National Guard…chances of my friend and I…?
My friend and I would like to go talk to a recruiter some more and probably sign up for the Guard this coming week. I know that our training/drilling once a month will be in the closest city (from what I’ve heard, Boise.) We live in Idaho, live in the same city, and go to the same college….would we be attending our drill together? Also, what are the chances that we would get to do basic together, as well?

I know the Army has the buddy program. I am assuming the National Guard has it.

The buddy program will get you and your friend at BCT together.

You should be at drill together also.

I think the best away is to ask a recruiter

  1. Your training will be at the nearest facility that has your MOS. It is possible that you might not drill together if you have different MOS or if another unit needs on of you. You can ask your recruiter about the buddy system.

Remember you also have 2 weeks of annual training a year.

  2. dont join the guard join the reserves if possible. but if you really want to do something with ur college education the join ROTC and you will not regret it if the army is what you want to do as a career. but if you want to use the national guard for the free college money to finish your degree then join the guard or reserves. but you gotta keep in mind that the guard gets paid by their state and the reserves get paid by the federal gov. the chances of you going to basic together will be easy just talk to a recruiter first and you can join as buddies an you will go to the same basic training either fort jackson south carolina or fort lenerwood( i think i spelled it wrong) missouri. but if you want to be together during AIT also you must sign up for the same job too.

  3. pretty good if you live in the same city and are going to have the same mos

  4. The army has a buddy program that you can go to basic together. You could probably go to AIT together if you have the same MOS. As far as being together in the same guard unit is up to you. Go to the unit you want to join and they have recruiters for that unit that will get you to stay together, especially as a new recruit. Go to the National guard recruiter, not the regular army recruiter.
