Question by MR.OLYMPIA: How bad of a 1st week did the ACC have and why is this Conference deserving of an automatic BCS bid?
2 teams from FSC (I-AA) win over ACC teams. Richmond, reigning FSC Champion, beating Duke wasn’t exactly an upset, but what to make of William&Mary beating Virgina 26-14 as the visiting team.
Baylor Bears snap a 9 game road loosing streak, goes back to last year when they won over Buffalo Bulls, by beating Wake Forest 24-21.
Maryland goes out west and gets a real beat down by the Cal Bears 52-13.
North Carolina State at home is held to 3 points by South Carolina.
Sure Virgina Tech played a respectable game against Alabama on national TV , but what does bottom teams of ACC say about the conferences depth.
Was anybody impressed by the wins BC beats North Eastern, Georgia Tech over Jacksonville State and North Carolina over Citadel.
Allot of people like to rip the Mountain West Conference by saying how weak of a division it’s , but is ACC bottom teams really that much stronger.
My biggest problem with BCS is it already determines that ACC and Big East get their tickets punched to a BCS bowl by just being in the conference. While a non BCS team such as BYU, Utah or Boise State will get shut out.
I will be real interested in how TCU does against Clemson come September 26.

so because boston college bea northeastern 56-0 does that mean theyre gonna win the ACC because they beat a FCS team and no one else can? of course not. 1st weeks are non-conference games, therefore they dont hurt theyre chances of winning the ACC. in my mind, the 1st week is preseason for college.

Week 1 is not the college preseason, it’s Week 1. If you even want to have a shot at the national championship you have to be ready to play because one loss means you’re done. You’ve had time to prepare for the season. Every ACC opponent that actually played somebody out of conference lost and a few even lost to much lesser opponents. I’m not going to go as far as to say that the ACC doesn’t deserve an automatic BCS bid but the talent pool is definitely lacking in that conference. I would put the MWC in the BCS. They’re not going to do worse than what the ACC did in the first week.
The Baylor bears are in one of the toughest confrences in the ncaa(big 12) they play against tough teams.
ACC (Atlantic Chump Champion). Man the ACC started to schedule Cup Cake and Cream Puff just like the SEC for their out of conference game except the SEC won their games and the ACC lose their games to a high school teams, lol. How in the world William&Marry beat Virgina and they beat them pretty easy. Al Groh the Virginia coach gonna get axxxedddd soon for losing this game. Duke is a basketball school but they try to play football and lose too Richmond High the movie,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,lol. Cal beating the turps is as expected but not this bad. Anyway the ACC is once again really bad but by year end they should have 9 teams in a bowl game, wow.
Rough day for the ACC, it happens. There are still some good teams in the conference, and I think Georgia Tech will be a national contender in a year or two. If it’s still losing to a couple d1aa teams in a decade, then maybe they should think about taking away their automatic bid, but not until then. Instead of taking away the ACC’s, maybe they should start thinking about adding the MWC and the WAC. They can always add another bowl game.
At the end of last season, the ACC went 2-1 against the SEC in one day, with Tech beating a very good Georgia team.
every conference is going to go into slumps. right now the dominant conference is undoubtedly the SEC. Look back 5 or 7 years. 1990 all the way through the early 2000s was all ACC. They arent very impressive right now but they will be back in a few years.
