Question by johndeere2510: college football bcs / playoff idea – what do you think ?
Multi-part question:
1. DO we need a full 8-team playoff (4 games, then 2 games, then one final), or can we put the top 8 teams into the 4 bowls (Rose, Fiesta, etc), THEN do another round of polls & computers to determine who is #1 and #2 – then they play a week later in the Champ. game on Jan 7th ?
2. The “WAC Conference clause” (Boise state last year, Hawaii this year…) Does any undefeated team, regardless of schedule strength, automatically deserve a spot in a playoff system?
3. Are the conferences “mini-playoffs” throughout the year, meaning that we SHOULD only allow Conference Champions into the playoff system and/or BCS title game ?
4. Are all the “upsets” because the real culprit is the pre-season and early season polls are making predictions (Michigan, USC this year etc) based NOT on actual performance, but on pure speculation ? (the BCS at least waits until SOME games have been played to release the first ratings)
Gotta love the topic…. Thanks

That works pretty good. But all confrences have to have a Confrence championship game. It’s not fair the teams like mizzou had to play a confrence championship game. And confrences like the Big 10, the pac 10, and the Big east don’t have one.
Yahoo sports, The Wetzel Plan. I think this is the perfect plan
1) No. To be TRULY fair, we need a 16 team playoff with all the conference champions (all D-1 conferences) getting an automatic birth in the playoffs and 4-5 at large bids possibly using the BCS system to determine that.
2) Yes. If you have an undefeated season you should at least be given a shot at the national championship. No matter what conference you are in…that’s still an amazing feat and look how well Boise State played last year. They beat a very good Oklahoma team.
3) No. Definitely not.
4) Yes, 100% agree. It’s based on past years and how they THINK new recruits or new starters are going to perform this year. Very bad.
