As Freelance Employment Rises, Business Coach Offers Vital Home Employment Tips
Boise, Idaho (PRWEB) December 15, 2011
According to a recent article in the Chicago Tribune, more and more Americans, faced with unemployment, are looking to online freelance opportunities. These contract jobs may only be temporary, but can still yield significant income, and offer the added perk of making working from home a possibility. According to consultant Ron Pratt, whose Idaho consultancy Pratt Business Solutions offers coaching for small business owners, working from home may seem like a cake walk, but actually presents its own set of challenges. “More Americans are starting to work from home, and that means they are discovering how difficult it can be to remain focused and motivated,” says Pratt.
Pratt offers five tips for staying productive while working from home, tips he says any telecommuter or home-based freelancer should take into consideration. “These days more than ever before, knowing how to work well from home is a crucial skill to have,” muses Pratt.
TIP SHEET
According to Pratt, the biggest thing to remember is that working from home is still working, and should be regarded as such.
1. Set up a workspace: Make sure it has all the equipment necessary for work, and that it is comfortable and aesthetically pleasing yet devoid of distractions.
2. Set a work schedule: Having strict hours or operation will ultimately lead to increased efficiency.
3. Maintain a professional attitude: Answer all phone calls and e-mails in a professional demeanor.
4. Don’t try to work and raise kids at the same time: If there are kids in the house, hire a childcare provider or enroll the child in daycare.
5. Avoid volunteering for other activities: Don’t allow others to impose on the time you need to be using to work.
Pratt says that all of these tips come down to self-motivation. “Working from home means there is no boss around to keep a person motivated,” he says. “That’s why it’s so important to practice great self-motivation.”
