Question by Ken S: What’s the difference if Ball State would have played Boise State in the Humanitarian Bowl? So what if it is ?
a home game for Boise State. I am a Penn State fan. Penn State will play USC in the Rose Bowl (their home field). I think the challenge is great. Why should Ball State back down? Do they really think they are entitled to a better bowl? They play a 13 game schedule of cupcakes.
To say the Rose Bowl isn’t like playing at home for USC is just stupid. When you can drive 20 minutes to your bowl game vs. 3000 miles for your opposing team gives you a HUGE advantage.

I would not have to call them a bunch of whimps if they did play them

  1. Travelling to California to a bowl game is a reward. Traveling to Boise, Idaho for a bowl game in order to play the home team is a punishment. There is a HUGE, HUGE difference between the Rose and Humanitarian Bowls.

  2. They were chicken- plain and simple. They were better off possibly losing badly to Boise, than to play some 6-6 team like Notre Dame and lose.

You USC homers are clueless! The Rose Bowl is less than 20 miles from the USC campus. I grew up there!
IT IS A HOME GAME FOR USC!
JUST LIKE THE SUPER DOME IS FOR LSU!

  3. To turn down the opportunity to play in a bowl game that would give Ball State tremendous exposure to college football fans is inexcusable. Yes it is a home game for Boise State and yes Ball State fans would be hard pressed to make the trip to Idaho but if a program like Ball State wants to gain respect then they should have said ‘bring it on.’ I think it sends the wrong message about their program.

  4. Boise State showed that they are the weak ones here. Ball State wanted to play them on a neutral site, but Boise won’t step off of their ugly blue field. They aren’t asking to play in the Fiesta or Orange Bowl, Ball State simply wants to play at a neutral site. The way bowl games were supposed to be played. By the way, the Rose Bowl is not USC’s home field. Home state of California yes, but USC plays at the Coliseum in LA. Get your facts straight before you call them out.

  5. First of all the Rose Bowl is played in Pasadena California which is UCLA’s field, USC is 95 miles away from Pasadena but is basically just a nice buss ride to play.

Second of all that is absolute BS to have to play a bowl game on Boise State‘s field against Boise State! Ball State’s fans are not going to drive 1,900 miles to watch the game either.

I think the should play team from a good conference like LSU this year, LSU had a bad year but they could clean house against Ball State, just throw these two teams in the Brute Sun Bowl and call it good

  6. Ask my team (Tx Tech) to play in your blue smurf turf backyard, we will be there….make sure you’re not late to the dance.

  7. 2Lucky is correct that the Rose Bowl is UCLA’s home field, but it is only 16 miles from USC not 95.

The Rose Bowl is a BCS bowl with nearly 100 years of tradition. Not to mention a $ 17 million payout and a trip to sunny, warm California.

The Humanitarian Bowl is a third string bowl in its 12 year. It’s payout is only $ 750K and a trip to snowy, cold Idaho.

Then again, being in the MAC doesn’t leave them a lot of great options. Still, they beat playing another team in a home game.
-Congressional Bowl, Washington DC – $ 1 million
    -Motor City Bowl, Detroit – $ 750K
    -International Bowl, Toronto – $ 750K
    -GMAC Bowl, Mobile – $ 750K

The only other situation like that this year is the Hawai’i Bowl but, let’s face it, you get a trip to Hawai’i!

  8. I agree with you. If they want to be in a big game they need to play a more competitive schedule but Penn State could get mercy ruled in the Rose Bowl.

  9. Actually the Rose Bowl is not USC’s home field, it’s the L.A. Coliseum.
I wouldn’t want to play on a blue field, regardless of where it’s located.
But Ball State should go ahead and play Boise State. It would be the only bowl game with two unbeaten teams going head-to-head.

  10. It’s more to it than the payout. This is about exposure to your program. Where is Ball State’s “any place any time” mentality? They had a chance to go play a good undefeated team and give their boys the biggest challenge of their college careers. Now, they will most likely play against NC st. which is .500 or Notre Dame in the Motor City Bowl. Ball State had a chance to validate their program even if they went to Boise and lost. Now, they are known as the pansies who were scared to play Boise St.

  11. It’s pretty clear that they’re nothing but a bunch of sissy la-las. They would have gotten more national expoure in 15 minutes of that game than they’ve had in their entire history.

  12. The difference is College football could give the respect that Ball State obviously isn’t ready for. All Ball’s fans now know where they really stack up.. and so does the rest of the world.. just read the blogs … they are even calling them pinky winkies.. wusses.. Anyone want to play footsies at BALL STATE next year?? BTW.. someone needs to change the name of Ball ST Univ…

Boise would play them, including OU, TT, any team going to any BCS bowl.. its the BCS officials that is making this about money.. they clearly don’t have the balls to make these trophies more than patsies. And for those of you who don’t know.. the Humanitarian officials have to release BSU to allow them to play elsewhere.. IF they were allowed a game..they would kick OU’s butt again.. anywhere.

Boise State since 2000 has a win ratio of 96%+ on blue turf or green, grass or mud.. no other team wants to be embarrassed like OU.. how about it college girls… any tech, ou,, penn, anyone of you so called bluebloods.. guess BSU will just beat TCU again.. again..

  13. Would Boise St. travel 1900 miles to play Ball St. in Muncie for less money infront of pretty much none of their fans and 25,000-30,000 Ball State fans? Rhetorical question the answer is no. This bowl could happen in the Independence Bowl if it could up it payout to $ 800,000 for each team or something, or in the Motor City Bowl which would maybe be fair. It would be a great game though and I think it would be real close. I’ve seen both teams play and they are about even. Maybe the second best bowl game. The Humanitarian Bowl is all about Boise and it is maybe one of the most unreasonable bowls to host this matchup.
