A Possible Future Road Trip (2012 or 2013) – California to Idaho and then coming back home to California…?

Question by : A Possible Future Road Trip (2012 or 2013) – California to Idaho and then coming back home to California…?
I was maybe thinking about taking a road trip from my current place (Lompoc, CA) going all the way up to my previous town (Moscow, Idaho) where I lived at for a temporary time which was so beautiful. I also made wonderful friends and my all time favorite school was there as well.

Here are my stops that I will probably be traveling at on the way up to Idaho from California and then coming back home a little later. It also includes time of travel and mileage per shift. Here are the shifts!!!

Now, here is the car we might take. It’s a green 2002 Honda Accord EX Sedan, which it can travel up to 478.8 miles maximum on highway, 342 miles in the city, and about 410.4 miles at a maximum combined with a full tank of gas at 17.1 Gallons. It can also get up to 24 miles per gallon maximum in a combination. The highway can get up to 28 mpg and the city can get up to 20 mpg as well.

How much gas should I use before I refill the tank again going on a trip like this and how often should I make stops besides my projected plan that I’ve created?

Well, that’s all I’m wondering about for now. Take Care!!!

First time driving that far? You don’t really have to plan your gas stops. On most highways there are gas stations spaced frequently enough that you can run down to 1 or 2 gallons before you fill up. You can even just wait until your little “low gas” light lights up. In some more rural areas on non-interstate highways it might be further between gas stations, but it is generally policy for there to be a sign that says like, “Next Gas 57 Miles”, at the last gas station before that stretch, when it will be a long way to the next station. If you see that and you have less than half a tank, might want to stop.

Or just when you stop for lunch, bathroom, whatever, get gas too. One tip which I think works – look for the exit from the highway where there are 3-5 gas stations, not just one. The competition will keep the prices a little lower.

  1. You’re probably overplanning. Actual gas mileage depends on so many factors that the best indicator is when you run low on gas, fill up.

As for stops: that really depends on you. Personally, I like to stop every few hours and do something (which is why my road trips take twice as long as they would otherwise…) Oregon’s got some very neat stuff (I’d take the 101 in at least one direction, as this takes you through some very breathtaking scenery in both northern California and Oregon).
